Great Grandma Spalding was a maker’s sort of candymaker. As a brittle maker when “old fashioned” wasn’t so old, her confections were made with care and intent. Over a century later her great-grandson John grew dissatisfied with contemporary brittle (a candy that was heavy on brittle and light on nuts) and dusted off her 19th century recipe.
