Spring Drinks to Lift Your Spirits
Spring has sprung in Nashville! The birds are singing, the trees are blooming, let’s celebrate the sunshine. Because most of the world is under shelter-in-place orders or COVID-19-induced quarantines, we have collected recipes that include easy-to-use cocktail mixers from our favorite local makers for a front porch happy hour!
Honeysuckle Whiskey Sour
With warming whiskey and bright Tennessee honey, we present the ultimate spring drink. You can keep it simple by skipping the garnish, or add flair with a shaken egg white. And, believe us, it’s not as scary as you may think.
What you need:
- 2 oz. Whiskey (We recommend using Collier and McKeel Tennessee Whiskey)
- 1.5 oz. Walker Feed Co. Honeysuckle Sour Mix
- 1 Egg White
- Ice
- Angostura Bitters (garnish)
Instructions:
- Add the whiskey, sour mix, egg white, and ice to a cocktail shaker.
- Shake hard for about 1 minute.
- Strain contents into a glass, and remove ice from the shaker.
- Return drink to the shaker, and shake again for about 30 seconds.
- Pour contents back into the glass, and garnish with a few drops of bitters.
Enjoy!
Blackberry Margarita
Does it feel like we skipped spring and went straight to summer? Cool off with this refreshing twist on a classic! With all the punch of a margarita plus a juicy, berry twist, this one is sure to become your new signature drink.
What you need:
- 2 oz. Tequila (We recommend using T.C. Craft Blanco Tequila)
- 3 oz. Walker Feed Co. Blackberry Margarita Mix
- Ice
- Lime Wedge
- 2 Tbsp. Sea Salt (for ease, use a Walker Feed Co. Sea Salt Rimmer)
- Fresh Blackberries or Raspberries (garnish)
- Toothpick (garnish)
Instructions:
- Add tequila, margarita mix, and ice to a blender.
- Blend until just mixed.
- Pour salt into a saucer. Rub the rim of your glass with one lemon wedge, and then dip the rimmed edge of the glass in the salt.
- Pour blended drink into glass, and garnish with lime wedge and berries speared onto a toothpick.
Enjoy, and don’t forget to give that lime a little squeeze before sipping!
Old Fashioned
For those rainy spring days, when you’re feeling a little more introspective and thoughtful. An Old Fashioned exudes class, and is one of the easiest drinks to make at home. Enjoy it over a deep conversation (or a deep FaceTime chat), or while reading that book you can finally enjoy because everything else is on hold right now.
What you need:
- 2 oz. Whiskey (We recommend using Belle Meade Bourbon)
- 0.5 oz. With Co. Ellis Old Fashioned Mix
- Orange Peel
- Ice
- Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. Bourbon Cherries (garnish)
Instructions:
- Combine whiskey and old fashioned mix in a glass.
- Add about 1 tsp of juice from the cherries, and squeeze the orange peel into the drink.
- Add ice cube(s), and garnish with the orange peel and a cherry.
Enjoy!
